The Place of Dreams
When I look back at that place....
Underneath the sea, hidden from the world.
Lays a "utopia" made of steel and concrete.
Flawless in every way, elegant and massive by design.
A place built for the artist, scientist, inventor, and the higher status that can plant and grow their ideas like flowers in the garden.
To practice their ambition and soar beyond the stars that once loomed over their heads.
A place that pushed gods and government away.
They were "parasites" as Andrew liked to call them.
He labeled them as such because they took from others what they did not deserve.
Leached off of the dreams and success of people.
Censored what they fear would promote the "wrong" ideas.
Banned what they could not tax.
Andrew believed firmly in earning what you worked for.
He believed in no control, no censorship to hold people back.
No banning.
It was the place of dreams.
Or at least, that was what he promised us.
You could dream, alright...
Just so long as those dreams didn't oppose Andrew's.
But now, what was Rapture?
A seemingly endless tortuous labyrinth that slowly died with each passing day.
Creaking and groaning in it's underwater tomb.
The glass broke, the steel buckled, the blood and sea water filled the streets of Rapture.
A place of dreams?
More like a world gone mad.
What lead to the city's demise?
Andrew slowly turning into what he despised.
Like an oppressive dictator, he locked up those that dared to oppose him.
Punished those that didn't fuel his ego.
Hated those that didn't embrace the image of the self.
Killed opposing opinions.
Furthering the hatred in the social divide of the rich and the poor.
It wasn't just the plasmids, Adam, splicers or the heartless experiments.
Andrew earned nothing but the idea.
He neglected those that sacrificed themselves to make it real.
A mistake that helped to make his precious city drown.
Flawed as he and his city was. I had to give credit to the man, he went above and beyond to make his vision come true.
Even if it did come with a massive price tag.
It made you think a lot about yourself.
Asking yourself questions that you probably never seriously thought about before.
How far would you go to achieve your vision?
What you want?
Would you do it at the expense of others?
Would you sacrifice strictly for your interests at heart or for others?
Perhaps, no matter how cruel you were, did whatever was needed to protect your dream from being destroyed?
Willing to even die yourself for it?
Andrew did.
